B(l)ack in Blue: Figranium’s New Look
Figranium’s UI has changed a lot over the past year. Its colors, for the most part, haven’t.
The original Figranium interface was dark-only and almost entirely black and white. Even through some of the biggest UI changes—especially v0.9—that monochrome look remained a constant part of Figranium.
It wasn’t something that needed replacing. Black and white worked well, and it still does. But as Figranium grew, so did the need for a visual identity that could extend beyond a dark interface.
From dark to light#
Light mode first arrived in v0.14 alongside several other themes.
It was the first major departure from Figranium’s original dark-only appearance. Over the releases that followed, the light theme kept evolving: contrast improved, components changed, and blue gradually became a more important part of the interface.
Then, with v0.18.3, light became the standard Figranium experience.
That meant its colors mattered beyond just another theme. They were now the colors most people would see first.
So I settled on a simple direction: blue and white.
Back in blue#
White forms the base of Figranium, while blue carries actions, links, selections, highlights, and the parts of the interface that need emphasis.
It keeps something important from the original monochrome UI: simplicity. Figranium still doesn’t need a huge palette to have an identity. It just has a different one in the light.
And over the past few weeks, that identity has been spreading beyond the app.
The docs came first, adopting the same blue-and-white direction. Now the landing page has followed, bringing the main Figranium experience, documentation, and website under the same colors.
The result is less about making everything identical and more about making everything unmistakably part of Figranium.
A new default#
The original black-and-white look isn’t disappearing. It still lives in dark mode and remains part of Figranium.
But it’s no longer the first impression.
Today, Figranium is light by default. The website is light. The docs are light. And the blue that started appearing throughout the interface now connects the wider ecosystem as well.
The UI has changed dramatically since the original dark-only releases. Now, for the first time, the colors have changed with it.
Figranium is B(l)ack in Blue.
